Tangents
Posted August 26th, 2008 at 12:09 amLately I've come to realize a very important issue with my work flow is one of tangents. My attention is easily grabbed, probably because many things interest me. This is both a blessing and a curse. Often I find myself browsing the web, usually on some kind of programming blog or programming website. Blogs typically have large amounts of links in their content bodies, which direct the user to other, relevant pages of interest. I click on the ones that interest me, often opening them in tabs behind my current one. This works out ok for a while, but I end up with a browser window with 100 tabs full of stuff I really want to absorb, but there's just not enough time!
Doomed for Failure
Posted August 2nd, 2008 at 11:52 pmA recent article discusses the current job market and your average American college graduate. The article basically says "If all you know is Java, you are screwed." At UNI, the first language they taught us was Java. I learned Java from Ben Schafer, in my CS 1 and 2 classes. I attribute my current interest in programming to him, and the things he taught me in Java have been and continue to be the springboard to bigger and better things.
it's been a while!
Posted July 20th, 2008 at 10:16 amWell, I finally got Discobeetle back online. It was offline for over two weeks due to my old hosting provider quitting the hosting bid-ness. Anywho, I had some problems with my new host which took a while for me to get ironed out. They finally did, though! THANK GOD. It's nice to be back and faster then ever. Anyway, I'll be back on the usual blog posting schedule from now on.
Weak Coffee Sucks
Posted June 16th, 2008 at 7:39 amThis morning I woke up early to do some laundry. Today, we're demoing our app at work to some people, and I wanted some clean clothes that look half way presentable. Hopefully it goes ok. There's still a lot of lose ends to tie up before 3 PM, but I think we'll get it done. Anyway, I decided to make some coffee. I poured in water for 8 cups, which gives me a few before I leave and fill up my mug for the travel there and the first few hours at work. What I didn't realize, is that I was almost out of coffee.
Change != bad
Posted May 17th, 2008 at 10:21 pmSo here I sit, on the eve of my first Saturday in Omaha. Earlier, after I got my interwebs hooked up (finally..), I walked down to the Old Market and got some food, a CD by Cut Copy, a CD by Tokyo Police Club and a pint of beer. I've been listening to the Cut Copy cd, titled In Ghost Colours and so far it's fabulous. It has a somewhat 80's sound, and it's very mellow and smooth.
