Sweatpants

What follows is a response to my university newspaper's article on sweatpants.

Dear Editor,
After reading the 8 Feb 2010 article regarding sweatpants, I felt I
must speak out against sweatpants' oppression. As a Computer Science
student, I feel it is my duty to uphold the long-standing tradition of
my peers and maintain a shambolic appearance. I wear sweatpants
everyday and own more pairs of them then I do of jeans. Also, in
today's chaotic economic environment, I find it important to practice
looking like a hobo. The transition from college life to hobo life is
thus one step removed and more easily embraced, should it become
necessary.

Sweatpants are awesome,

How Education Failed Me

I remember vividly the first time I ever read something. It is my earliest memory. I don't know exactly how old I was, maybe five.

A book auto-renewer for UNI's library

A while ago I wrote an auto renewer for UNI's library. I thought I would share that code in this post. It's not the best code I've ever written, but it works, and it's much better then trying to remember to do it manually.

So, without further ado, get it.

It's pretty simple to run, basically you just do

  1. ruby rod_library_renewer.rb last_name UNI_id_including_000_in_the_front

The default action as demo'd above is to renew all books. I set this on up on my system using cron to run every day.

This will almost certainly fail if someone reserves one of the books you have..but I don't know how the web interface reports this, so my script doesn't catch it. So. Be aware!

Think

Lately I've been taking about thirty minutes out of every day to just sit and think. It's not an easy think to do. It takes willpower to make the time, and to actually commit to thirty minutes. But it relaxes me. And besides, humans are the most intellectually gifted beings in the known universe. I think it makes sense to set some time aside to exercise this gift.

Try it.

1&1 internet hates bunnies

For some time, I have used 1&1 for a few of my domains. For an equal amount of time, I have regretted this decision. I am now in the process of switching all my domains to Gandi for they are not scam artists, and are French, which is excellent.

Anyway, below is my current (ongoing) debate with 1&1. I hope that it defers you from using their scam flavored brand of failure. Another benefit is now when the 1&1 goons come and whack me, there's public record of our debate. :)

My initial email to them, upon discovering that they yet again claim I owe them money:
